Snatched Moments

Well it's been a while, in fact I can't quite believe how long it is has been... time seems to be speeding up at the moment, although that could just be a symptom of me trying to fit as much as I can in to each day.

So in order to still get in my crafting fix I have been snatching moments here and there where I wouldn't usually, to try to get maybe an extra row on a pair of socks done.

One of these times is when I am having my breakfast before leaving for work, the lighter mornings always give me more energy and I have discovered that spending 10 minutes in a morning knitting on something simple like a sock somehow centres me and prepares me for the day ahead and is a much better way to start the day than rushing out of the door, breakfast half eaten and no time for coffee.

I have a few long term projects on the go and have been on a bit of a garment knitting spree since Christmas, which may be the reason why I have been feeling short of time as it is more difficult to see progress on a larger sweater / blanket that a pair of socks, but I have found that knitting a pieced garment can help with that as there are steps along the way that feel like semi finished objects.  This is one of the reasons I enjoyed knitting Halele'a by Mel Ski so much as it was pieced but with a clever and fun stitch detail added which made it interesting to knit.

My Halele'a was knit in some now discontinued Patons 4 ply yarn in a baby blue colour that is a little lighter than the photo shows. I love the vintage look of the yarn and think that this fits very well with this tailored cardigan that reminded me of some of the patterns I remember my mom and grandma looking through when I was a very young girl!

The buttons were from my local yarn store - Sitting Knitting which is literally a 5 minute walk away from my house, they are shell type with a pretty daisy design and I love them!! It is a comfort knowing I have such a lovely yarn store so close that I can nip to in those emergency situations when all my needles are taken up with projects and I just have to cast on something new :)

On a personal level my knee has mostly recovered from the surgery in mid January, although at the moment it is no better than before, but I am hoping to see some improvement over the next couple of months.  In the past couple of weeks, I have also learnt that I need a hip operation which is scheduled for early April (thankfully not the 1st!).  This operation will see me out of action for a few weeks on crutches, unable to drive and get to work ...  thank goodness I have will plenty to keep my mind and hands occupied whilst I recuperate!!!

Until next time, I hope you are finding those precious minutes, sometimes only seconds, in which to indulge in your passions.

A Change in Direction

It's Sunday evening and I have spent too many hours today recording and then trying to upload a video to restart the podcast (Season 2 no less!) with a different hosting site.... needless to say it didn't work as well as I thought it would and so I started the process of looking into other alternatives (again!) and came up with the same result, if I want to continue podcasting it is going to cost ....... alot.........

I always wanted the podcast to be my way of sharing with you my projects and thoughts on my crafting life and it was meant to be fun and enjoyable.... the past couple of months, with losing the ability to host my podcast on blip and trying now three different alternatives, I admit have not been fun and enjoyable, and while I am willing to fund the podcast to some extent I will only do that for a seamless and hassle free solution.... it's fair to say I haven't yet found that and so today I have finally listened to whatever the Universe is trying to tell me and decided to stop spending hours, getting more and more frustrated and feeling more and more technically incompetent in trying to do something that right now I am clearly not meant to be focusing my energies on.

Then I had a thought (dangerous I know) which is refreshing in it's simplicity and exciting in that it will enable me to continue to share with you whilst also enabling me to do more of what I enjoy (less hours tearing my hair out in front of the PC) and also enable me to develop one of my other loves more - WRITING!!!

I was never a blogger, the blog was set up as a means to host the podcast and show notes etc, so in a way I missed out on my right of passage with blogging and I guess I went straight to the destination (without passing Go!), but the more I think about it the more I like the idea of pouring out my thoughts and projects in words and pictures through this medium, and so from this day forward I will consider myself as a blogger, no more saving things until I record, gathering all of my weekly progress, acquisitions and future projects to cram them into a 30 minute recording and then remembering something I really wanted to say once the podcast was live!!

I am not setting any guidelines for the blog, in terms of how frequently I will write, other than to say it will be when I have something to share, that may be a finished project, it may be a new purchase or it may be simply because I want to connect with the keyboard and formalise or organise my sometimes hectic thoughts and plans.

I hope that you will continue to follow the blog and if you do not already, please do so to ensure you do not miss out on any of my musings.
The blog will be a work in progress and there maybe some changes to its appearance and layout but the content will always be me, I'm just sitting here typing and talking to you through the keyboard rather than at a camera.....

Podcast Announcement

I have been having ongoing issues with trying to find a host for the podcast, hipcast didn't work because of the size limit for each upload and now podbean I have discovered seems to be having difficulty to reading the episode titles and everytime I upload one the others get overwritten!!

This is not acceptable going forward and so I am back to drawing board in looking for an further alternative all of which will take time and money.

For that reason and to take some of the pressure of rushing to to do this as I want to get this right this time, I have made the decision to put the podcast on a temporary break until 2014.  In the remaining 4 weeks or so of this year there is so much to do and I right now I can not promise I can get the podcast back up and running until things have calmed down in the new year.

I will still be on Ravelry and social media sites and on the blog and I will try to keep everyone as up to date as possible with progress.

The current share your LOLs thread will therefore now cover November and December and will be drawn in the New Year.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Keep on knitting :)

Episode 57 - Lots to Share

Well hello!!

Welcome to this weeks episode, and thank you for joining me.  Its been a busy three weeks which I catch you up on in the podcast.

First LOL is my very first pattern that I have released on Ravelry (£2.50) it is Sowing the Seeds Cowl and I am very excited to be sharing this with you.

The pattern is easily adapted to different sizes and weights of yarn.

The first cowl is knit in a merino / bamboo blend from

My second LOL is also the cowl pattern and this time in a darker yarn from Cakewalk Yarns which is unfortunately now closed  in the stash base which is a 80/10/10 blend of merino, nylon and cashmere.

Third LOL is not a knitted object but a tatting project.  I taught myself to tat with the help of some excellent Youtube videos from TattedTreasures.

Nattering Away
The first project shared has not seen alot of love in the past three weeks.  It is Goodale by Cecily Glowik MacDonald.  I am using Patons Superwash Merino in a burgundy colour and size 4mm needles.

And then onto the Christmas Projects
American Socks are still on the needles although I have almost finished the second sock leaving just the afterthought heels to do :)  These are being knit on size 2.25mm needles in stares and stripes yarn from ArtisticYarnbyAbi

Second socks to share with you are basic shaped arch socks by Marlow Crawford.  One sock is complete and the ribbing has just been started on the second, these are cuff down and knit in  Countess Ablaze Lady Kathryn Sock base in the Party Colourway on 2.25mm needles

Third socks are plain vanilla socks in Austermann Step Yarn on 2.25mm needles.

Speech Therapy
I was given sock lovely gifts for my birthday which I share :)

I hope you all have a fantastic week and I'll speak to you soon

Bye now :)

Episode 56 - Drawings and Organisation

Hello and welcome to this weeks episode of the podcast.

itunes is all up and running now but you will need to resubscribe to the new feed which starts with episode 55.

There are lots of drawings to do and so I went ahead and did these before I started recording.

I have been contacted by ATexasYarn who is Alison with the sad news that Betty sadly lost her battle with bladder cancer and passed away on 31st October.  In honour of Betty Alison is increasing the amount of the pattern price that is donated to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network from $2.50 to $3.50 which is around 75% of the price, through to July 7th 2014 which is Betty's birthday.

Chatter: Its been the usual bust couple of weeks here and I have some exciting developments in that I have begun working on my first design.  The prototype is complete and the pattern is currently being test knit by Charminglochie (Kelly) and hopefully Mel from the Single Handed Knits podcast and I hope to have the pattern finished and ready by mid November.  It will be a paid for pattern.

I also spent some time sorting the craft room out and went though all my stash.  I weighed all my left over sock skeins and labelled them so I know how much I have left and plan to start using some of these up on smaller projects.

LOLs - nothing to see here....

Nattering Away
Goodale is still on the needles, I am using an old Patons superwash Merino yarn and size 4mm needles

Also in the needles is a pair of vanilla socks in the stars and stripes yarn I purchased a few weeks ago from knitpurlgurl on etsy.  I am using 2.25mm needles and 64 stitches.  I will do a true afterthought heel. These are for a Christmas gift.

Also while clearing out the craft room I rediscovered a long standing hibernating project which I am now going to finish.  It is a reversable Cinderella doll from Jean Greenhowe's Christmas Special Booklet.  I was so close to finishing it seems silly not to and this will also be a Christmas gift.

Tongue Twister
I have been trying out my spindle I bought at the Bakewell Wool Gathering, and I am spinning some fibre from hilltopcloud on etsy and this is BFL, Merino and Bamboo in the Sunflower colourway.

I have not made any purchases but have spent some time sorting my queue on Ravelry out.

Thats all for this week, see you soon

Bye now :)

Episode 55 - A blip in the Road

The past couple of weeks have been somewhat of a roller coaster and I working to get the podcast back on line and on itunes.

I will update the shownotes in the coming days but wanted to get something up as soon as I could

Also despite what I said on the podcast Hipcast didn't work for me as there was a size limit to the file I could upload which made it very poor quality so I moved to Podbean!!  Hoping to get this back onto itunes as soon as I can.. fingers crossed

Thanks for your patience :)
